I love Christopher's brattiness and Cat's indecisiveness and lack of agency, because it stands in such contrast to your usual Noble Young Hero type.

It's so weird, most of them read the same to me - even Cat and Christopher in their each first books could be switched with each other and I probably wouldn't notice. I have suspected it to be an "insert self here" thing, since her adult protagonists and secondary characters are more colourful. But maybe I just lack subtlety. (I mean, I love Po3, which is certainly anything but subtle.)

the whole 'parody set in Africa' thing makes me nervous. If it's faily, I'd rather not know!

I'm not the best person to judge, but I think she didn't do too badly on that front. I mean, the premise is what it is, and pretty unfortunate, but while the African characters are just as prone to foolishness as the British ones, their foolishness is unrelated to their Africanness.
