I totally almost included it on the principle that Deep Secret is SO MUCH BETTER than the sequel, but felt like that would be cheating. >.>
Dude, Time of the Ghost is incredibly confusing, I do not blame you! When you do not actually know who your main character is until 3/4 of the way through the book, I do not think anyone can be blamed for getting perplexed . . . (In general though I think I tend to be less bothered by the difficulty-to-follow of most of DWJ books, I don't know why - maybe because I am just too entertained to bother trying to make logical sense of things? I remember trying to make my brother read Hexwood when I was younger and being really bemused when he handed it back and said he couldn't follow it, because yes okay maybe you have no idea what the robot and the dragon and the confused Japanese businessman are doing in the first chapter, but . . . it's hilarious so it doesn't matter! Right? RIGHT? Uh. )
I really do need to reread it - I think the reason I bounced off it a little is that none of the characters stuck with me the first time. But I am way more appreciative of older-people romance now than I was back when I read it the first time around, so perhaps I will like it more! Eight Days of Luke is definitely a higher priority, though.
