I am still doing the icon fic meme (and also still accepting requests, if anyone else has them) but I can write comments at work in a way I can't usually write actual fic, and therefore: ANOTHER MEME. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] gramarye1971!

Give me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any or all of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage, and possibly a short excerpt as well.

As Shannon says, silly or serious is fine. Distract me from my work, I will thank you!

Damn it, Rym, did you miss the part where I am having an enormous love affair with these books and wish to babble nonstop at everyone about them? (I mean, I guess it is possible that you were avoiding this on purpose . . .)

I actually am thinking quite differently about Inda's super-genius after a revelation in the fourth book, but I don't want to say here because there are people who may read it who haven't read the fourth yet!

Yeah. Me too. I'm pretty sure I saw what you saw, but the characters don't have the vocabulary to discuss it properly so we all have to read between the lines.

Yes, I suspect we are talking about the same thing. It is a fascinating way to do it, anyway.

- and the difference here is, if we had been given that kind of lens through which to view Lymond (which we wouldn't have, because Lymond is super-special along MANY MORE axes, but hypothetically) it would just have been fodder for several more chapters of angst.

Well, it is angst! ... but not for Inda. The people who have to deal with the consequences, as I understand it, are Evred, Tdor and Signi. Inda has no idea, so it doesn't bother him.

Well, it's not like it makes things all that much worse for Evred either, honestly . . . I mean, he would be stuck in pretty much the same position regardless. I'll admit that Tdor and Signi probably have to deal with some more awkwardness on that account than they would otherwise, but, let's face it, it was going to be awkward no matter what. And if Inda wasn't the person he is, then none of them might care as much as they do anyway, so the point is sort of moot.

So actually, I think probably the only significant angst-factor related to that is the one going all the way back to poor Tanrid. Which is a bit Lymond-ish, when you think about it!
