No, wait, I lie. Only one prominent female character in a rather large cast, and while she is the only anthropologist and very intent on giving good advice to the military captain/protagonist leading what will be a First Contact mission, she's being very much kept off-stage.
I have a soft spot for Niven and Pournelle--up to a point--but, yeah. Not aging well.
