Cozy mysteries frequently are murder mysteries, it's just that the person murdered was never all that popular to start with and everyone else has generally happy/comedic times instead of angst and sordid affairs.

Donna Andrews' We'll Always Have Parrots takes place at a media con and I quite like it, if you'd like a rec from me. :)
