I'm trying to remember what they were now -- I think we determined that probably the senators on that planet were not necessarily elected (because we had a hard time imagining that particular Senator's election campaign) but were rather appointed by committee, and were considered safe but moderately irrelevant positions for not-particularly-distinguished relatives of important people, like the equivalent of a minor diplomatic role. OR SOMETHING.
