I don't remember all the details, except that it took me completely by surprise how unquestioned the portrayal of the mixed-race character as a wicked family black sheep - Dorothy Sayers, by contrast, has a plotline in Unnatural Death that also revolves around a surprise long-lost mixed-race heir, who is portrayed in definitely racist but sympathetic language and comes virtuously and deservingly into his inheritance.
