I Googled "gawain gentle healer" and apparently Gawain's healing skills show up in Chretien des Troyes! AND ALSO a 2003 novel called Warriors of Camlann in which Gawain is in fact a time traveler from the future, which obviously I am going to have to hunt down ASAP.
