"Human compassion and emotional understanding are important for the survival of humanity" is not an unusual point of view among my networks, at least, but it's still really pleasant to see this thesis very carefully worked through over 35 volumes in which every character from the classically trained pianist (in a future with no surviving pianos) to the shut-in with intense social anxiety who's never before formed an emotional bond with anybody but her cat turn out to be Important to the Survival and Social Fabric of the Community.
