Both of the new Jumanji films are an absolute delight for precisely the reasons you state -- it's fun watching the avatar-actors play their "real-world" selves, and they do a moderately astonishing job of pulling it off.
Also, unless I'm mistaken, the boss fight at the end of Next Level is notable in that Yergen turns out to have a player-character stat card. Which means that he's almost certainly not actually gone for good despite that drop into supposed oblivion at the end.
