Oh man, I had the exact same complaint – come on, you can't put in "if you dishonor the gods he'll let you drop" AND "Eugenides stole jewelry back from the altar to pay for the boats" and not... let him drop. Just a little bit!!! Drop him just a little bit! The story needed it!
