The immediate, seamless integration of the Maquis and Federation crews made no sense at all, to the point where I appreciated even more when a later sci-fi show had an entire season of the warship's AI and original, high-minded military captain struggling in dealing with the small crew of freewheeling shipping/salvage/sometimes looting civilians he had to take on and vice versa. And they had far less personal beef between them!
