I forgot to mention that 'rotting leaf mound' is also a crossover theme between the two books! (the frog aliens sleep in comfy wet-leaf piles; Juna spends a significant amount of time longing for a Real Bed and then finally gets one and is like 'oh no I LOVE sheets but my new amphibian skin is getting so dehydrated, can't BELIEVE I'm longing for a wet leaf mound, this SUCKS'
