I believe there was! And for an EXTRA helping of racism, in the books, the Chinese Boyfriend was Phryne's long-term love interest and she effectively became his mistress, but in the TV series he was one-and-done.

(Which was probably for the sake of the Phryne/Jack thing they were building, but it came at a time when MULTIPLE ABC adaptations were erasing interracial romances between white women and Chinese men, so it jumped out at me.)

(For the record, the books are far more racist than the TV series and also just generally badly written.)
