Over the past two weeks I have gone straight from a professional conference to a wedding to VividCon, lugged my roommate's oversized suitcase across four cities, hung out with innumerable incredibly delightful people, seen an equally large number of really stellar vids, visited at least six used bookstores and bought at least ten Gothic novels.

Now I am home and exhausted, so I'm just going to leave my rushed but heartfelt VividCon premiere here and go to bed:

That all sounds good, except for the suitcase, and I hope you can sleep at least metaphysically for a week!

I had to hunt it down; it's been stuck in my head.

Do you hear songs and feel that they fit certain fandoms, or do you have vid ideas and see what music matches, or something completely different?

(In most cases where I have thought of vidding something, it's because either a song reminds me of a movie/show or vice versa. Because I don't vid, however, I don't know if this is akin to the unrealistic ways people who don't write conceive of writing.)

No, that sounds similar to how I conceive of it! (I mean, I didn't-vid but thought about vidding for many years before I actually started doing it.) Songs often remind me of movies/shows, but when I really start wanting to vid them, it's usually because I've started linking very specific imagery up to very specific lines such that I have a kind of proto-vid that plays in my head whenever I hear the song.

I have done the reverse a couple times, too -- here's a vid idea, now I'll find a song that matches it -- but in both cases it was for an assignment and a deadline. Also a fun experience, but something I'm a lot less likely to feel inspired to put in the work to do on my own.

Songs often remind me of movies/shows, but when I really start wanting to vid them, it's usually because I've started linking very specific imagery up to very specific lines such that I have a kind of proto-vid that plays in my head whenever I hear the song.

That sounds extremely useful for when you need to sit down and start putting the vid together.

What a lovely vid that gets at the yearning and the love that Steven Universe gets so well. I particularly enjoyed your use of the Thanksgiving episode and of Garnet's backstory -- a thing I cherish about Steven Universe is the emergence of understanding and love between people who are very unalike, and I see that so much there.

I love this vid. It's exactly the mix of terrible feelings and hopefulness that I get out of the show, and I'm all over emotions now. The way you used the backgrounds and the panning shots was so perfect. I love how it emphasises the fact that everyone's journey is about something bigger than themselves, but the way they see that something is often very specific, it's not just the universe in abstract. I have no idea if that made sense, but I adored the vid!

I saw this vid on Tumblr and had to track down a download!

The vid captures so well the steady character driven optimistic tone of Steven Universe so well! That these really are characters with pasts and futures and the importance of all of that on their relationships with each other.

I cried, I smiled and now I'm gonna go show it to all my friends and give them feelings too! <3

I totally cried watching this at VVC and I'm totally crying watching it now. Wonderful work <3
