Those of you who are sick of seeing me pimp out

fma_ladyfest: you are in luck! Because sign-ups end tomorrow (Wednesday) at midnight EST and therefore this is the last pimping post you will probably have to see. (Unless you belong to the FMA comms, in which case, uh, you'll be seeing like four more. Sorry?)

In other news, in honor of all the fantastic fic that is to come (AM I STILL TOO EXCITED ABOUT THIS? MAYBE YES A LITTLE) I am following in

vivien529's footsteps and reviving the songfic game!

Name a work of fiction - book, movie, tv show, whichever; obscure is fine and welcomed, as long as you know that I know it - and whatever the next song is that comes up randomly on my iPod after I see your comment, I will describe to you the plot of the amazingly angsty and terrible songfic that would emerge from this combination! As a bonus, if the song is uploadable, I will upload it for you when I get home from work.

Example: You say, "The Cat in the Hat;" the next song that comes up on my iPod is "Don't Fear the Reaper"; clearly, this would generate a fic about the Cat trying to talk the fish into letting the Cat dump him out of his bowl, leaving his confined life for a passionate and freeing death!

(And then by the rule of the internet, of course, that fic will spring spontaneously into existence, but we can ignore that bit.)

PRINCESS TUTU!

Oh man, for this I got Gutes Tun, which is No Good Deed from Wicked IN GERMAN, which if there is a more hilariously perfect song for Princess Tutu I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS.

So obviously this is the super-angsty backstory fic in which Backstory Lohengrin!Fakir accidentally writes Backstory!Mytho into immortal heartlessness during his fight with the raven, and is then like "man, trying to be a hero turned out terribly! So I swear that in my next life, I will be an ENORMOUS JERK" before dramatically expiring. Fast-forward several hundred years, and here we are!

*wince, laughing*

AHAHAHA. I bet this is Drosselmeyer's favourite song after, say, the Wagner operas. It's certainly his favourite sentiment!

I really wish I could sign up for the ladyfest but alas, I just started art school and I'm working on a webcomic in addition to that, so I know I won't have time. :( But I will be following it quite closely!

As for the meme... FMA. Haha.

Cheering from the sidelines is awesome! :D It is seriously extremely cool for us to know that we are not the only ones excited for the output of this.

And for this I get Life Less Ordinary, which . . . actually could be a pretty decent Ling/Lan Fan song, but as the point of this meme is ridiculousness we're not going there! Instead, this is clearly the songfic about Father's secret love for Hohenheim. Father just wants Hohenheim to come BE IMMORTALLY AWESOME with him! But for some strange reason Hohenheim is not appreciative, so Father has to move on to Plan B: steal the philosopher's stone power out of Hohenheim's soul, devour God, destroy the world. Why you gotta be that way, Hohenheim. :(

I am always in approval of more fic about ladies!

HAHhahahahah poor Father and his unrequited love. WHY CAN'T HOHENHEIM SEE THE WAY HE FEELS ABOUT HIM!? WHYYY

He tried to subtly hint that Hohenheim was the most important person in his universe by killing everyone else in the aforementioned universe, but mysteriously Hohenheim took this the wrong way! ;___;

I was going to complain about not being able to draw on the later books, but what am I saying, you know that inevitably all songfic is going to focus on the tragic love of THE CAPTAIN AND THE PINK WHALE. And indeed, Timbaland's One and Only suits this tale of star-crossed lovers SO WELL. He just wants to hit that one more time! And not in the harpoon way.

I am not doing this meme in my journal properly, but if you want to toss a prompt back, I will see what Pandora gives me!

If this is not the angsty songfic in which Faris wallows in her [SPOILER]-related ennui and stares out the window towards Galazon, I do not know what is.

Oh, Companyverse and your gold mine of angst. I got Boulevard of Broken Songs, which is so very an angsty Victor song that it's not even funny. However - because why touch on just one angst when you can have two or three or four! - the songfic is in fact a highly structured piece that parallels Victor, Nan, Lewis, and Joseph, wandering up and down various empty streets and ranting at length about how depressed and lonely they are. The overall effect of the fic ends up being a sort of unintentional "it sucks to be me" one-upsmanship! WHOSE LIFE SUCKS MORE, VICTOR'S OR MINE? (Victor's. It's always Victor's.)

Hahaha. Yes, a gold mine of angst.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Okay, I got Thea Gilmore's Inverigo for this, which would totally be the ghost!fic about all the dead Sunnydale students who bought it during the fight against the Mayor, eternally teenaged, floating around playing poltergeist with radio stations and gradually and depressingly losing their sense of self. Still, it's better than being being vampires! Probably.

I would read that fic.

I got Aimee Mann's Long Shot for this, which is totally the fic about Graham Spector angsting to himself about how he has FAILED LADD by not kicking Claire Stanfield's ass, and how all he wants is Ladd's love. ;_; (In this fic, Graham also has a split personality, a la Gollum. Whom I firmly believe would also be voiced by Chris Patton, if there was an LOTR anime.)

Ha ha that is actually sort of my headcanon for Graham! A MOST MYSTERIOUS COINCIDENCE. (That would be...kind of amazing, really.)

(AND TERRIFYING.)

Aw, I wanted FMA. :p THE MIDDLEMAN!

(Unrelatedly, so, okay, because someone outbid you on the song auction in a truly frightening manner, I was thinking of doing the top two bids ... largely because I was interested in what you'd prompt me with. ^^;; Obviously because you didn't sign up for that in the auction and I don't know how many others you actually did win, I would not hold you to the donation, but if you still wanted to prompt me, I would still want to try?)

I got Noe Venable's Happiness, which . . . now I actually really want to be a real Middleman vid, which is always the danger of doing this meme! But for angsty songfic purposes, this is totally the "It's a Wonderful Life" fic, in which Wendy is trapped in the universe where she's a totally normal nine-to-fiver who thinks she's happy with her conformist ordinary life except when she occasionally get flashes of her other, awesomer existence. Which is a trope that I am SURE the show would have used for an episode at some point in season 2. (Lacey fixes it with the power of noncomformist BFFlove, by the way.)

And, as a bonus, as an FMA fic, this would be . . . okay, actually I'm looking at it and it's totally the soundtrack to the Scar and Marcoh road trip fic that I already wrote and, uh, now I can't see it as anything else. So NEVERMIND.

(Oh, dude, I totally would still do the donation! And will totally donate higher if I have to. :D Although now I am going to feel PRESSURE to come up with an awesome prompt . . . well okay yes I do already have a prompt in mind, but I don't know if it's particularly awesome or one you will really want to do! BUT ANYWAY.)

Man, I would read that angsty songfic! And rec it to all my friends! Even if it involved crying. Which it would not, because, Wendy + Lacey bffls.

Homeward Bounders or Chrestomanci Chronicles!

HAHAHA my iPod gives me Sunglasses at Night. This is the fic about that time that Adam keeps Joris up late watching terrible 80s and 90s action movies, and Joris then proceeds to have a dream in which Konstam is basically Bruce Willis, in a leather jacket and shades, driving through the city being a hardass.

Alternately, it's the AU version of Homeward Bounders in which Konstam does wear a leather jacket and drive around the city being a five-foot-tall hardass. SO DANGERESQUE.

D'oh, I hope I haven't missed out!

Not too late! And in fact, now I'm home on my laptop so my range of music is broader - and sometimes MORE LOLARIOUS, as in this case when iTunes gave me Nickelback's Savin' Me. Which: obviously, OBVIOUSLY a fic about the Narrator's TRAGIC TRUE LOVE for the Witch! Is he worth saving? Sadly, the Witch decides no. And then we get to the falling. After she's, you know, shoved him into the arms of the giant.

ALSO, you need to read Gail Carriger's books. Soulless, Changeless, and Blameless is coming in less than a month. They're steampunk supernatural Regency romance with a kickass heroine. I think you would find them adorable.

This is a question only you can answer! I mean, I think we have made it clear how we feel whenever someone signs up, but that is sort of irrelevant. :D

I have read Soulless! Then I got Changeless out of the library and sort of accidentally flipped to the end and was irritated, so I haven't read it yet. I'll probably wait to do so until I hear reports of Blameless.

I found the ending of Changeless annoying, but I believe it will pay off in Blameless. At least I hope so. My copy won't arrive until the end of October/beginning of November, since it's shipping with Greg Rucka's third Tara Chace novel and the sequel to Leviathan.

(I can definitely point you at screencaps regardless, but the art part of this particular exchange is less icon-making and more drawing and stuff, since people are providing prompts for scenarios they'd like to see and so forth.)
