Last night I dreamed (among other things) that I'd written the essay that I have due on Wednesday for my 19th-century novel class. Since currently I have absolutely no ideas what to write about, I spent the past ten minutes trying to remember how I'd worked it.

. . . turns out I dream-wrote about the interaction between the individual and society in Emma and, uh, Superman. UNHELPFUL, SUBCONSCIOUS.

Gah, though: I was an English Lit major and I don't want to have to write any sort of essays on 19th-century novels. You could always write about what hidden feminists all the women are in books from that era. That's popular. Unfortunately, then you'd have to prove it.

What's the essay guideline?

It's a kind of strange topic: something that we have (or have not) learned or thought about in a new way because of Emma, Wuthering Heights, and Barchester Towers. (Definitely an 'and', by the way, not an 'and/or'.) I don't mind 19th-century novels - in fact I find them kind of fun a lot of the time - but I'm scratching my head over a theme for all three!

That sounds like a totally wonderful and valid topic. I would read that. Nowish. (Even if I'm supposed to be writing, too.)

Emma is Superman in disguise. Powerful, powerful disguise. So much so that you are not supposed to see it in the plain text, only in the subtext. That is simply how good her disguise is.

......I mean, c'mon, you were fooled right?

Dream essay prompts are apparently much more interesting than real ones! Although I dunno; you seem to have a knack for interesting essays anyhow.

But I'd totally read that paper too.

The only thing I have a knack for is convincing my professors that books I self-indulgently want to talk about are relevant!

Sadly I do not think I can pull it off for this particular topic. *grins*

That's nonetheless an awesome knack!

Although I feel you should call it a superpower instead.

Because. SUPERPOWER.

It is a superpower I ought to transfer to someone else, then! As it will do me little good in two months. HOW CAN I FIGHT CRIME WITH IT?

Or a sidekick. At least for the last two months.
