First post for that December requested posts thing!

So

bookblather asked me about my favorite crime-fighting duos, and the one that always jumps first into my head is not actually really much of a crime-fighting duo at all, except for one or two glorious episodes: Olive Snook and Emerson Cod from Pushing Daisies.

If you do not remember Pushing Daisies, it was that Brian Fuller show about a singing ex-jockey pie waitress and a cynical knitting detective who made pop-up books, and also a dude who raised people from the dead and his star-crossed love affair, I guess. I mean, look, we all loved Ned and Chuck, and I also loved Ned and Chuck, but would I have been just as happy -- or perhaps even happier -- with the Olive And Emerson Detective Agency Show? YES. YES I WOULD HAVE. And was I secretly enraged that the hasty wrap-up when the show was cancelled made it canonical that Olive did . . . something that I can't remember but that tragically was not partnering up with Emerson for the Olive And Emerson Detective Agency Show? YES. YES I WAS. Sorry, Brian Fuller, but your vision was INFERIOR.

Ummmm. What other crime-fighting duos do I love? I am not gonna talk about Elementary's Holmes and Watson because I feel like that's too obvious, and also though I still love Elementary I'm currently cranky at it for spending way too much time on Holmes Brother Drama that I don't care about. I just did a search for 'together they fight crime!' in my gmail to see what comes up, and I get:

Kyoko and Kanna from 20th Century Boys, who didn't actually do much crime-fighting together either, but whom I would desperately love to see fight crime together in future

Scar and Marcoh from Fullmetal Alchemist, who do not fight crime so much as fight . . . genocide . . . after Marcoh helped to commit it . . . and then tried to commit suicide-by-Scar and had his face melted instead . . . AND YES I DO WANT TO READ ABOUT THEIR CRIME-FIGHTING ADVENTURES, THANK YOU

Eva and Dieter from Monster, who I had totally forgotten until just now fought crime together for one SHINING MOMENT

Livia Levesque and Abishag Shaw from the Benjamin January books, who are never actually a crime-fighting duo in the Benjamin January books yet, but if they were it would be my FAVORITE Benjamin January book

Molly and Mohinder from Heroes, which, aww, sometimes I forget that once I cared about that tragically-canceled-after-a-first-season show

Harth Fray and Mary Lennox . . . about which it is probably better not to ask

I was going to suggest Yankumi & Shin, and then I remembered that they do not fight actual crime so much as LACK OF MANLY SPIRIT. And by 'fight' I mean 'Yankumi fights and Shin sort of follows her around hoping he can help out at some point'.

I forgot Eva and Dieter actually fought (a) crime! CLEARLY A RE-READ IS IN ORDER.

Yes, I feel a 'crime fighter and loyal sidekick!' dynamic is slightly different than a 'together, they fight crime!' dynamic. Shin is the support force for Yankumi's one-woman whirlwind crime-fighting dynamo. That said: YES I DEARLY LOVE THEM WHENEVER THEY FIGHT CRIME TOGETHER. Man, I need to reread all of Gokusen at some point soon.

I'm upset that Hiro and Ando don't make it in from tragic first season cancellation Heroes. THEY HAD SUCH A BEAUTIFUL ICON.

Hiro and Ando did not fight crime so much as ... amble adorably in the general vicinity of crime ... no, I malign them, Ando's Heroic Stand was one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE THINGS about that too-short enjoyable season.

However, I am pretty sure that the icon takes place in the alternate universe where they FIGHT THE LAW instead. (I mean, I guess they also fight the crime. But not as much.)

Olive opened a macaroni and cheese restaurant with the taxidermist, which I'm pretty sure happened solely so they could make the pun joke of the restaurant's name that I don't actually remember. Um. But they'll always have adorable food raincoats?

And really, I'm still sad that the big Joan-related-reveal was that she slept with Mycroft and not that she was bi.

That doesn't disallow her being bi. My hopes remain!

I mean I do love macaroni and cheese restaurants a lot . . . but I love the Olive And Emerson Detective Agency EVEN MORE.

I was also really sad about that. I am deeply meh about everything to do with Mycroft at this point, and about Joan's role in facilitating Holes Brothers Reunions. Let's have Holmes being used as a factor in Joan's family drama!

That particular iteration of 'together, they fight crime' was actually from a comment that you left me once upon a time! CLEARLY THIS IDEA'S TIME HAS COME. >:D

AHHHH HOW DID I FORGET WENDY AND THE MIDDLEMAN?!?!

I mean, I know the answer, it's because I apparently only ever deploy the phrase 'together, they fight crime!' in comments and emails when the people in question do not actually fight crime together. BUT STILL.

They don't fight crime, though! They fight COMIC BOOK EVIL.

Peter and Harriet? They do fight crime together! Alternately, Miss Climpson and ANYONE EVER.

I feel like I ought to have at least one other obvious answer, but it's not springing to mind. (Although now I am yet again wanting the All Old Lady Detectives And/Or Spies team-up.)

It's true, they do! I mean I'm always onboard with Little Old Lady Detectives and whomever they choose to fight crime with, really. OH and I totally forgot to talk about Aunt Lil!

I must tell you that someone over at Mark Watches has just proposed a 1930s Baccano!verse FMA crossover with various factions being gangs and mafias and so forth. If I did not do so with alacrity (ahhhhhh that's the word I was looking for this morning) it would have weighed terribly on my soul.
