I do appreciate what she's trying to do, and the weight/logic of inaction as well as action! I think I ... mostly understand the construction of the symbolic death plotline, and why it's necessary, but I cannot stop myself from laughing at the way that it plays out when boiled down to plain text.
(I also appreciate that you managed to find an explanation that made the plague chapters structurally relevant, when mostly I spent those chapters thinking 'gosh, I was wondering how she was going to maintain the high hurt-comfort quotient now that Karis and Zanja are committed and living together, I GUESS PLAGUE IS THE ANSWER!')
