So I made

dictator_duck rewatch Labyrinth with me months and months ago because she'd never seen it. And in the wake of that I meant to write up a thoughtful post about tropes in Labyrinth, and how Hoggle is weirdly coded in some ways as an alternate romantic interest except for the fact that he's a giant-headed Muppet, and about terrible (amazing) costuming decisions, but now it's months ago and I've forgotten most of it.

So instead have some icons, because Jennifer Connelly's face is pretty and David Bowie's face is hilarious, and puppets are fun if surprisingly difficult to screencap.

Posting about Kiha earlier today reminded me I've been meaning to do an icon-dump! Of . . . icons probably nobody but me will find useful. OH WELL.

Most people, I suspect, do not write their autobiographies when they are twenty-eight years old. But apparently 28-year-old Kenneth Branagh, who was trying to start up a theater company and was extremely cash-strapped, is the exception to this rule! Hence Beginnings. I am okay with this because it means I get to read an autobiography of Kenneth Branagh pre-all of Kenneth Branagh's worst life decisions (ex: Love's Labor's Lost, As You Like It, divorcing Emma Thompson.) Also, Phyllida Law, Emma Thompson's awesome mom, drew the pictures!

Okay, here's an embarrassing confession: Kenneth Branagh was totally one of my first celebrity crushes. Look, I was exposed to Much Ado About Nothing at a young age! These things happen! Older and wiser now, I recognize that there is a certain inherent lulziness of Kenneth Branagh's directing-and-acting style - and by the way, is anyone else extremely disappointed that Kenneth Branagh is not taking the starring role in Thor as well as directing? BECAUSE I AM - but I still cannot help but making eyehearts at Benedick and several other Baby Branagh roles. And the Baby Branagh autobiography was actually pretty charming! My favorite parts were probably when he was accused of acting Richard III like a Dalek, his constant grumping about people telling him he has a cherubic baby face/is destined to play policemen, and all the cameos from BRIAN BLESSED, alternately ragging on Branagh's directing style and expounding on how Claudius JUST WANTS TO GET LAID.

Anyway, so then obviously I had to go rewatch Much Ado About Nothing. And maybe take a few screencaps. And . . . well.

It's been two and a half months! So I allowed myself near Photoshop again . . . and we all know that is a TERRIBLE IDEA.

So. I, um, appear to have gone crazy and made 320 or so Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood icons? (I guess this is not a real surprise to anyone who has been around here long enough to live through the first flower of my obsession with Princess Tutu.)

Anyway. Several text, an epic ton of bases, no real spoilers unless you count "AL BEFRIENDS A TINY PANDA" as a spoiler. (Apologies to anyone who didn't want to know that.) The five million Hawkeye and Envy icons were at

cupenny 's request. I have no excuse for the five million Izumi and Olivier icons other than my desperate crushes on both of those ladies. As always, feel free to edit any bases, although crediting is appreciated.

Admit it, you missed me spamming you with five zillion Tutu icons, didn't you! Although actually this time around it is only 70% Tutu icons . . . and 30% my first, shameful attempts at Middleman icons. MORE ALMOST CERTAINLY TO COME.

Yes, it is an icon post that is not entirely focused around Princess Tutu! I know you are all shocked. (And um you can probably expect one of those in a few days.)

Most of these are Capital Scandal icons, which I know none of you have seen, but on the other hand I feel most of you will not blame me too much if I bring you what is basically a small picspam of very pretty people pointing guns, wielding swords, swing-dancing, crossdressing, punching each other in the FACE, and wearing ridiculous plaid suits and pink fedoras, yes?

( I have learned that in kdrama, threatening to shoot someone means 'I love you'! Except when it doesn't. )

Spurred on by last week's babbling about old movies (and by love of fedoras), I also made some Casablanca icons! And some Scarlet Pimpernel (1983) icons, which I really have no excuse for except that I wanted a swashbuckling icon and Anthony Andrews and baby Ian McKellen make funny faces.

( To be fair, in Casablanca threatening to shoot someone also often means 'I love you', even if that is not explicitly iconed )

I certainly don't have any kind of ulterior motive for posting these right now. (It is way, way too easy to get carried away by the prettiness of this show.) Tutu icons - Into the Woods text, random text, animated, and about a million bases - ( under the cut! )

So, uh. As you guys have realized by now, I have become ~~mildly~~ obsessive about Princess Tutu. And apparently when I am obsessive about something I make five million icons! So: this is the first batch, involving some crossover Into the Woods icons and many many bases. There will undoubtedly be more.

Around this time last year, I was feeling vaguely un-great. And so I made an offer.

Right now, I myself am doing pretty well, albeit in a crazy busy sort of way - but a lot of you people I care about are going through tough things, and when you guys are sad, that makes me sad, too. I wanted to take the time to go through

innerbrat's love meme earlier this week and tell you all about your fabulousness, but every time I opened up the page a little voice shouted "No time for love, Dr. Jones!" in my head and I reluctantly closed it down and went back to my reading/take-home midterm/thesis draft.

After today, though, life hopefully slows down a bit, at least for a week - and so I am repeating my offer from last year. If there's something I can do to make you happier, this post is a place for you to request it. I will write fic, both new requests and old ones I never got around to doing and forgot about; I will make icons; I will tell you my thoughts on yaoi; I will upload music that reminds me of you or that I think you would like; or, if you want, just tag in and I will tell you some of the myriad reasons why I think you are awesome.

Please don't be shy about taking advantage of this. I really want to do stuff for you guys, because you all mean a lot to me.

And for the time being, I will trundle back to my thesis chapter, the completed draft of which must be done today before I go off to see Titus Andronicus tonight. I got into a pretty good thesis-writing groove last night before I fell over, so here's hoping I can manage that again!

It seems I am unable to go icon-making without going overboard.
