Dear Yuletide author,
Thank you so much for writing for me! I have been doing Yuletide for some large number of years now and I have never failed to be delighted by what I received; if you write something that makes you happy, I guarantee I will be delighted with it also.
I am always interested in women interacting with each other, ensemble stories, family dynamics, revolutions, complex politics, explorations of identity, and the kind of romance where flawed and peculiar people figure out how their flaws and peculiarities fit together. I'm pretty much always down for crossovers; AUs tend to be more hit-or-miss for me but I'm definitely in a more AU-friendly place this year, as you will see in some of my requests!
Most of these canons deal with some pretty serious topics, and dark themes are A-OK if it makes sense for the story, but I tend not to be into graphic and gratuitous violence. I'm cool with sexual content, but I'd prefer it wasn't the entire point of the fic.
Fandom: Anastasia (1956)
Characters: Anna Koreff, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, General Bounine
Details: This is a movie with SO MANY BLANK SPACES - please feel free to either fill some of them in, or create more! What happened between Bounine and Anna in the scene we're not shown at the end of the film? What kind of sense of self, if any, has Anna found when she leaves? Do Anna and the Dowager Empress ever meet again? What happens if Anna doesn't leave at the end? Missing scene, post-canon or AU would all be great - I'd just be fascinated to see these dynamics explored!
This is a canon where the intensity and complexity of the relationships are most of what I find fascinating about it; everything is built on a shifting foundation of lies and mistrust and mind games, so does anything real grow out of that? Can it? I'd love to see anything that explores Anna's relationship with the Dowager Empress, with Bounine, or with her own identity. For this canon and all these dynamics I'm OK with happy or unhappy, healthy or unhealthy, resolved or unresolved (and for Bounine-(/)-Anna, sexual or nonsexual) -- just make it interesting, though I'd prefer you didn't ignore the tension and sharp edges of all surrounding circumstances. (For reference, I wrote a post the first time I saw this movie that contains all my initial impressions and may be helpful!)
Fandom: Hexwood - Diana Wynne Jones
Characters: Any
Details: I'd love to see a postcanon fic about this INCREDIBLY WEIRD NEW FAMILY dealing with INCREDIBLY WEIRD SPACE POLITICS? Mordion/Vierran is all the way my jam and I eat it up with a spoon but I'm also really into Vierran-Martin (Guess We're Siblings Now!), Vierran-Mordion-Hume (Guess You're Kind Of Our Thousand Year Old Fake Son Who Is Also Merlin!), and Artegal-Everyone (I Was King Arthur And Now I'm Just Very Confused!)
This book is so damn weird! and I love it! SO MUCH! I love the identity shenanigans, I love how much it's DWJ's idfic, I love that it's actually a book about parenting. Give me romance, or give me hilariously complicated coworker-family dynamics, or give me five people with astoundingly dramatic backstories getting down to the business of trying to establish good government in an empire has been comprehensively screwed over by dictators for the past many thousands of years. Definitely free to explore the ways that this book is about trauma and recovery, because I care about that very much, but, I mean, this is DWJ, also feel free to go full workplace sitcom. Or do both at once! (Here is a post I wrote the last time I read Hexwood that may also be helpful.)
Fandom: Dragon of the Lost Sea - Laurence Yep

Details: WEIRDEST REQUEST: what if someone turned these books into an RPG computer game? what would the cut scenes and choice branches be? LESS WEIRD REQUESTS WHICH I WOULD ALSO LOVE: anything written in Monkey's voice; anything about Civet, either pre-series or interacting with the others during the journey; and anything about the gang's interactions post-series, especially Monkey-Shimmer hijinksfic or Indigo and Shimmer and Thorn's complicated emotional triangle is sure to make me happy.
So I've made this request before, and, as always, I would be thrilled to receive any fic at all for this book series ... but I also have one particular and specific request from my pre-Yuletide reread last year, when I could not stop imagining the video game RPG version with various alternate endings depending on player choices. So this is one canon in particular where I'm suddenly really interested in AUs; if you felt inspired to write me something about what that game might look like - or Five Times AU-fic, or an exploration of a different ending, even an interactive fiction if you're feeling really like an overachiever! - that would be extremely neat, but honestly so would absolutely anything else!
Fandom: 시카고 타자기 | Chicago Typewriter (TV)
Characters: Han Se-Joo, Jeon Seol, Yoo Jin-Oh
Details: Sometimes two reincarnated humans and a ghost love each other very much, and sometimes they love each other SO much that the humans publish novel-length RPF ABOUT the ghost, and sometimes they then all live happily ever after! OK, that last part didn't officially happen yet in canon but it was strongly implied that it MIGHT and now it can! in your fic! if you feel so inspired! :D
I love this ghost OT3, please give me more ghost OT3! (Okay technically only one of them is a ghost.) Some ideas:
Writing and/or revolutions! Shin Yool was also writer in the past, though the story doesn't spend a lot of time on that; does Yoo Jin Oh now want a fiction writing career of his own? Or does he -- or the whole trio! -- get involved in using their pens for contemporary battles against injustice? Maybe a ghost can do research that ordinary humans can't? (MAYBE A CROSSOVER WITH HEALER.)
Or - FANDOM HIJINKS! Is Jeon Seol still a BNF? Did Se Joo ever find her fanfic about him? Did her RPF experience help make it less weird for Han Se-Joo to write his own lengthy published RPF about their past lives? Are people now writing fanfic for the published novel, and how weird is it for all of them (or not weird at all for Jeon Seol?)
Or - kidfic! Parenting in a family where one partner is a ghost? WHAT IF there's another awkward kidfic reincarnation situation? ...please don't have Shin Yool reincarnate as their child, that would be SIGNIFICANTLY TOO AWKWARD. But an opponent from their revolutionary past could be really interesting!
Or general reincarnation stuff wrt memories/the revolution/learning from the past! Or ghost-rules-related plotlines drawing in Bang Wool and Bang Jin, both of whom I love very much! Or anything else you feel inspired to write!
Fandom: Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Characters: Caroline Hubbard, Doctor Arbuthnot, Pilar Estravados
Details: As soon as I walked out of this film, I thought: 'okay, but what if they DIDN'T stop being vigilantes?' I would love to see Leverage-style 1920s heist-fic for this crack team!
Look, I know they promised Poirot no more murder but ... who cares? This is a great team with solid, well-rounded skills, why wouldn't they keep working together for justice and/or revenge? I'm most interested in Caroline Hubbard as brilliant mastermind and the members of the team (such as Dr. Arbuthnot) who have the most compelling reasons to try to work against structural societal injustices, but I'd honestly love any fic about this concept. But if you're not into that, I'd also be really into a story about how Dr. Arbuthnot and Mary Debenham fell in love, given the 1920s; how Caroline Hubbard worked to pull together the team for the murder that we actually saw; or literally anything about Pilar as a boxing missionary, there is so much possible story there???
Fandom: Dracula - Bram Stoker
Characters: Jonathan Harker, Mina Harker, Quincey Morris, Lucy Westenra
Details: This goes against everything I've ever requested before but I really want ... a modern AU .....? I'd love to see the epistolary nature of this book re-envisioned through contemporary media and technology!
OK here's the thing - I've recently been reminded how much of Dracula is about TECHNOLOGY and COMMUNICATION and I just think it would be extremely neat to explore this through, like, Jonathan Harker's travel blog, and the #blooferlady conspiracy theory Twitter hashtag, and Lucy Westenra's social media accounts are all shut down! OR ARE THEY? But if you're not interested in contemporary AU stuff, that's fine -- I'm also really interested in missing scenes from the book, especially team bonding/travel adventures for our group of classic Victorians (and one cowboy) as they go far outside their comfort zone on the Fight Against Dracula. I would love to read an AU where Lucy lives and can contribute to the rest of the book! This is also a book I find broadly hilarious, frequently in unintentional ways; if you want to write a parody or a tone-shift into horror-comedy, be my absolute guest. (For the record, I am not particularly interested in sexy vampires, definitely not interested in Mina/Dracula, and while I am obviously pro agency for Mina and Lucy, I'd prefer it to be in ways that are consistent with their context and characterization in the book unless you're writing the modern AU.)
Thank you so much again - I'm really excited to see what you come up with!
