Aw, you could do the corpse-monster with makeup! (I mean. Not that Wen Ning's makeup was great or anything.)

That final scene was kind of devoted to making sure we understood exactly what a woobie everyone in that temple except Su She was. Fuck Su She. Does he have inner pain? Probably, but no one cares!
