Well, I don't feel a need to hate or dislike a work or abstain from it because of a dislike for the author, obviously - but I don't really want to ignore it either. Because the thing is, sometimes when you know something about an author, you do see things in their work that you would have missed otherwise, and things that might be important to make note of.

(I know I am an English major because I am having to repress a desire to go into a long discussion of New Criticism vs. more recent critical models right now. REPRESSING.)
