I don't know, it seriously confused me in a number of ways - and the moreso because Diane Duane is generally really good about female characters, and went out of her way even to show a lot of important, driving-force lady Vulcans in the history bits, so the complete lack of sense in the T'Pring storyline really came out of left field.

(And then Spock and Kirk and Bones get to go be magnanimous at her when she goes to Vulcan prison, because they are Good, Heroic People, and. SIGH.)
