skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (land beyond dreams)
So while I'm talking about World War II I should probably also write up another book that I read a few months ago, Christopher Isherwood's Prater Violet.

Prater Violet is about the time semi-fictionalized Christopher Isherwood gets hired as the scriptwriter for Austrian intellectual director Friedrich Bergmann to make a deeply fluffy and stupid movie musical. (Not gonna lie: I would watch the musical. AND PROBABLY LOVE IT.) The year is 1934; Hitler is on the horizon; Bergmann is Jewish, and his family is still in Austria; the business of movie-making is frustrating and hilarious and nonsensical and pretty heartless, and those involved with it don't feel much like engaging with any of this.

I read this book after reading a review of [personal profile] rachelmanija's, and despite how much I liked it I've been putting off writing it up because I couldn't think of a ton to add to what she has already said better. But now I DO have something to add, which is this hilarious Venn diagram I found on Wikipeda:

I have so many questions! Who made this? Did it come from someone's high school book report? How did it get on Wikipedia? Who decided that Isherwood was the REPRESENTATON OF ART IN THE NOVEL?

Anyway, there you go: Prater Violet summed up in one handy infographic. Now you don't have to read the book. (But you should read the book.)
