Hmmmm. Given all this - yeah, I am not sure this book would be for you. The cardboard villainy is not associated with the South, but it is emphatically associated with religious convictions - pretty much all religious convictions, with the dramatic exception of a saintly moderate - and the rest of it would probably hit your squick buttons more than would be worth it.
