Oh man, I always forget "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" is LeGuin -- it just feels like such a fundamental piece of work, that I almost forget to associate it with an author in my head, if that makes sense. I read it in a high school lit class too (uh, although not actually for the class -- that prof kept a lot of stories around the place and had a very, er, lax attitude about whether students were actually required to pay attention in lectures) and was blown away.
