Oct. 13th, 2007 12:42 pmThe short version: Avatar's politics make me SO HAPPY.
The slightly longer version:
With this Sokka episode, they did two things that I LOVE.
First of all, they showed how much the group needs him, and in a way that's not just about the comic relief. And we all know I'm a sucker for the unpowered characters becoming seriously kickass and relevant, so . . . yes, it's not surprising that this made me happy. I always felt like Sokka provided a lot of the drive and ambition of the group and that they should listen to him more, and show proved me right. AWESOME.
Second - well, it would have been easy to make this an episode about Sokka Learning to Kick Sword Ass in a Manly Fashion.
But how did this come about? It came about because Sokka loves SHOPPING. And RAINBOWS. (He added the rainbow to the picture! <333333) And the show doesn't go 'heeheehee, Sokka is a guy who loves shopping!', it goes, 'Sokka can be cheered up by going shopping and isn't that great! Meanwhile, Toph hangs around and picks her toes for fun. And I love that SO MUCH, and I love even more how the show doesn't make a big deal out Subverting Gender Stereotypes, just does it.
. . . and yes, Iroh was awesome.
