skygiants: Enjolras from Les Mis shouting revolution-tastically (la resistance lives on)
[personal profile] skygiants
OKAY, guys, after [personal profile] gramarye1971's brilliant suggestion of introducing the Scarlet Pimpernel and some conversation with [personal profile] innerbrat, I've got it! I HAVE FIGURED OUT THE FRENCH REVOLUTION SLEEPY HOLLOW AU.

So obviously the premise here is that the revolution BEGAN as a fight of the forces of GOOD against EVIL, but then EVIL took over circa 1792ish with the Terror and everything went to hell. HEADLESS hell. You get me?

Now fast forward 230ish years.

OUR CAST:

Oona Chaplin as Marguerite St. Just, THE CLEVEREST WOMAN IN EUROPE. In 1789, Marguerite was a revolutionary fighter in the good fight against demonic monarchist evil! But when it seemed like EVIL was triumphing over the ideals she cherished, she grew disillusioned and abandoned the country. Her penalty: to sleep through 230 years and wake up in the modern era to FINISH THE FIGHT SHE BEGAN.

Important notes: unlike certain other time-traveling Witnesses and fighters of the apocalypse, Marguerite, KNOWN FOR HER AVANT-GARDE FASHION SENSE, is quick to embrace as much fabulous modern attire as humanly possible.

Also, Marguerite is married, but she is also bi, which might not actually be Scarlet Pimpernel canon but has been headcanon around these parts ever since Debi wrote her lesbian Scarlet Pimpernel fic for Yuletide last year. This is relevant so that everyone in fandom can ship her with ...

Nicole Beharie as Arielle Moulin, because why mess with a good thing? Arielle is a talented French cop who discovers that she and Marguerite are DESTINED to AVERT THE APOCALYPSE together because of their mystical evil-fighting soulbond. She might also have a ~mysterious legacy~ that ties her to the revolutionary evil-fighting past! MORE ON THIS ANON. Anyway she's basically just Abby Mills, but French.

Lyndie Greenwood as Juliette Moulin, also basically just Jenny Mills but French because likewise I don't want to mess with a perfect hair on Jenny Mills' perfect head.

William Beck as Percy Blakeney, Marguerite's husband, who unbeknownst to Marguerite was part of a COVEN OF GOOD WITCHES known as the LEAGUE OF THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL that fought against the HEADLESS EVIL that overtook the Revolution. However then everything went fubar and Percy ended up banished to Purgatory with the Headless Horseman, where now he hangs out as Marguerite's dedicated damsel in distress.

The twist is that Purgatory doesn't actually know Percy was a witch, EVIL just think they're keeping him as leverage against Marguerite, so Percy has spent the last 230 years in Purgatory really dedicated to looking like a harmless idiot who ended up there by accident. Therefore he can only communicate dire warnings to his beloved Marguerite or her new partner through ANNOYINGLY OBTUSE BAD JOKES or CHEERFULLY TERRIBLE DOGGEREL VERSE. "He seeks it here, he seeks it there, the Horseman seeks it everywhere!" Marguerite is pretty good at interpreting this but Arielle hates him so much. SO MUCH.

Alexander Siddig as Edgard Elmahdi, a French-Sudanese police captain and Arielle's direct boss. Captain Elmahdi is NOT IN FAVOR of supernatural shenanigans going down in the major Parisian metropolis area; his job, as per tradition, is to spend most of his time really irritated. With the universe.

AND, SPECIAL GUEST STAR IN FLASHBACKS:

Orlando Jones as Alex Dumas, illustrious revolutionary general, SECRET COMMANDER in the battle against the forces of evil and the apocalypse, DEAR FRIEND AND LEADER of the evil-fighting efforts of Marguerite St. Just ... and, of course, in a huge backstory reveal, ARIELLE AND JULIETTE'S ANCESTOR. IT WAS DESTINY ALL ALONG.

Other key points about this show: even though it's French, everyone speaks with British accents. The Eiffel Tower is metaphysically significant even though it wasn't built until a hundred years after the revolution. There's an episode in which Zombie Ben Franklin guest stars. There are important secret codes hidden in The Count of Monte Cristo and a treasure map written in invisible ink on the back of the Déclaration des Droits de l'homme et du citoyen.

Oh, and Chauvelin was eventually beheaded by the Committee ... so now he is the Headless Horseman ... RIGHT? YES?

I'm not sure about the title, but I think it may be Place de la Bastille. AW YEAH.
