Dec. 25th, 2007 11:25 amIf you imagine me diving headfirst into the Yuletide archive right now like someone diving into a POOL FULL OF CHOCOLATES . . . let us just say it would not be incorrect.
Three Yuletide stories! I am not worthy, but I am delighted. And they are all fabulous and just what I wanted! Toiling Upward in the Night, an absolutely adorable Min/Miranda from Jekyll; All May Yet Be Very Well, a Secret Country post-canon story which has Secret Country language-isms down pat, and addresses a lot of the questions I really wanted to see answered about what happens after; and The Wandering Jamie, a post-canon Homeward Bounders drabble, which . . . I would be jealous that whoever it is can write Jamie's voice so absolutely perfectly if I wasn't so busy adoring it. Seriously, guys, that's Jamie right there. It is. And the last bit especially is exactly right.
And while I haven't had much time to look through the rest of the Yuletide archives yet, I have to recommend two already:
Much Ado About Pindar; Kage Baker's Company series was the only one of my requests no one wrote - but although this story wasn't written for me, it's exactly what I would have wanted, so I'm kind of wriggling in glee anyways. Joseph and Lewis on a road trip, non-spoilery for anything and absolutely spot-on with the dialogue and the wit and the darker bits, too.
and
La Familia, a Chrestomanci family story - rather long, but absolutely worth every word. Set post-all the canon that we have, from Cat's perspective and dealing with what happens when Millie falls ill. The topic is serious, but whoever the writer is has completely captured the tone of DWJ's writing and the reasons I love it so much; it resonates without losing any of its humor, and each and every character reacts in totally believable, sometimes petty, but always sympathetic and individual ways.
. . . and in conclusion, EEEE YULETIDE!
