I liked 'Abigail Adams' by Woody Holton which (among other things) looks at the Adams family finances a lot as a case study in how married women controlled their economic destiny at a time they weren't allowed to own property, and also about the extended Adams family -- there is definitely a mention in that of Abby alluding to family planning in one of her letters to a daughter (?), though there isn't a lot of detail.
