It's neat! There's a whole lot of Consequences Having Actions that I very much appreciate -- Shimmer and Monkey are both of the 'solve the problem singlehandedly in the FLASHIEST WAY IMAGINABLE' school of thought and it bites them in the ass time and time again. Also, the worldbuilding in these books was probably my first introduction to any bit of Chinese mythology and I ate it up with a spoon. (Though he throws in lots off other stuff too -- like, the Wild Hunt is hanging around occasionally chasing after Monkey because WHY NOT.)
