Also I still don't get, if you're going to frame ANYONE, framing your actual friend who's still just a padawan and probably one of the least complicit! What was the motivation there?

I think that it wasn't the plan but when given the opportunity, Barriss took the quick/easy route - i.e., that's the Dark Side? So she didn't originally intend to frame Ahsoka - Ahsoka hadn't even been on Coruscant and had actually been brought back to investigate with Anakin so it made no sense to accuse her! - but once the opportunity presented itself (maybe Barriss was already on her way to murder the witness when Ahsoka arrived?) she took it, and because she'd succumbed, she was never going to confess to clear Ahsoka's name, because the Dark Side is inherently selfish? Idk.
