Yeah, it was like ... there were several moments during the film itself where I was like, "this is fun! I'm having a good time!" But any time I think about any part of the film as an actual narrative structure, I'm like "...hmm. Bad. No, this was a bad call. That was poorly crafted. I don't like that decision at all. "
Emma Watson didn't stand out to me as Meg but she certainly didn't bug me either. And Marmee and Aunt March were so good! You can very much tell we're only seeing glimpses of them through the eyes of the kids, revealing aspects of a complex whole.
(Though, I don't remember, and maybe somebody can remind me -- why is Aunt March rich when the Marches are not? I would have thought she was Marmee's sister rather than her husband's, honestly, but ... March.)
