For me I think it was a book with perfectly good bones and not quite enough substance to fill it out -- I could see all the outlines of the things I liked in the worldbuilding and character relationships, and the prose was perfectly readable, but none of it was quite fleshed out enough yet to make it fully stick. I'm curious to see if that's a debut problem, though, and if the worldbuilding gets more depth in later books.
