I just re-read The King of Attolia and the scene in the dungeon with Relius and Eugenides and Teleus plays even more intensely with this knowledge, and it was already a fairly intense scene to begin with. Also Teleus carries Relius out of the cell in his arms and the text consistently refers to Relius as his "friend," which, look, I grew up on Mary Renault (and classical Greek), I shouldn't have missed that.
