Yeah, the naming conventions are weird and interesting! The book never specifically says that kids often get different names when they get older and take different roles in the community, but it's pretty strongly implied; the two oldest people in the village and de facto leaders are Venerable and his wife Ven Ida, for example. (Tacky-obbie is named after a kind of bird and I think Hulin means something in the context of the world as well but I do not at all remember what.)
