Yeah, the way the book handles that particular clash of culture (Juna's instinctive horror at the way the Tendu treat their pre-sentient juveniles and the choices that leads her to make, and the way her attitude impacts back onto the Tendu closest to her) was one of my favorite things about the story! It did an extremely good job of showing a very different familiar/ethical system from within and having it make sense from the POV of those participating in it.
