I truly loved that a starting setup of the book is 'humans HAVE found a couple of life-supporting planets HOWEVER they so far have been desperately allergic to ALL of them' because it made perfect sense to me, allergies are physical overreaction to Weird And Potentially Dangerous Foreign Substances and of course an actual alien planet would set them off!
