Oct. 23rd, 2022 08:35 amDear Festividder,
Thank you so much for making a vid for me! I will absolutely be delighted by whatever you make, and I'm really looking forward to watching it! This letter contains a variety of prompts (most copied from previous years) but please disregard absolutely anything that doesn't speak to you and make the vid of your heart.
Safety fandoms: The Talk of the Town (1942) [SAFETY], Camelot (1967) [SAFETY]

Umbrella fandom: Jumanji Movies [UMBRELLA]
Webnovels/Webtoons: 전지적 독자 시점 - 싱숑 | Omniscient Reader - Sing-Shong, 살아남은로맨스 | Surviving Romance (Webcomic)
The Talk of the Town (1942)
The Talk of the Town is a precious gem of a film in which a proletariat rabble-rouser played by Cary Grant gets falsely accused of murder by Big Factory Bosses, so he hides out in the home of his stressed-out childhood crush, who is she is currently subletting her home to a pompous lawyer on the verge of being nominated to the Supreme Court, AND THEN THEY ALL ARGUE ABOUT LEGAL ETHICS AND FALL IN LOVE. I love everyone in this threesome so I would of course be thrilled with a romantical vid about them, but would also love anything focused on the character development of any one of the three or the Big Ethical Themes of the film!
Camelot (1967)
Camelot! It is, implausibly, a big budget musical version of one of the weirdest (affectionate) Great Novels of the twentieth century! I'm realizing here that I accidentally nominated two threesome films for my safeties ... that said, while I do love the Arthurian Trio and wish they would get their act together, I am also really interested in Arthurian tragedy not as failed threesome but as desperately idealistic failed ethical project that contains within itself the hope for its own renewal (and to that end feel free to include clips from other Arthurian canons to really dig into the themes of If At First You Don't Succeed if you feel so moved although of course that is not in any way necessary to this request!) I'm also interested in the Mordred-Arthur relationship so if you're compelled by horrible little tragic bastards do feel free to go in that direction as well.
부암동 복수자들 | Avengers Social Club
This is a lovely little twelve-episode kdrama about three middle-aged women from different walks of life who decide to band together to Get Revenge on the men who have wronged them! It used to be quite difficult to get hold of My favorite Avenger is Jung-hye (she's so beautifully committed to being bizarre) but I would love a vid focused on any of the three lead women, or on their dynamic together. While I like Soo-gyum and the younger generation, I don't care about them as much on their own and would prefer a vid that didn't focus on Soo-gyum alone; however, a vid that focused on Jung-hye and Soo-gyum, Mi-sook or Do-hee and their respective children, or indeed all of TEAM REVENGE as a collective, would be absolutely delightful.
완벽한 아내 | Ms. Perfect
Okay, this one's a 20-episode kdrama but it's also a great use of twenty hours of your life -- it's an extremely creepy, beautifully shot thriller about two women whose lives become more and more intertwined in less and less comfortable ways. Things I love about this show include the fierceness of our middle-aged heroine, the many interesting and complex relationships between women, the amazingly terrible children, and the the fact that the love interest's job is mostly to provide coffee and legal assistance and 'OH BURN' faces whenever the heroine gets in a good zinger, all of which could be super fun to vid. I'm especially interested in the way that it embraces and revels in Gothic imagery, and I would also really, really love a vid that digs into that some. Also, I think it bears note that I don't love EVERYTHING about the show and I definitely think it could have stood to interrogate some of its tropes way more than it did, so if you want to do some pushback/interrogation of the show's Madwoman in the Attic handling of its antiheroine, that would also be amazing.
Jumanji Movies [UMBRELLA]
I was so excited that we could do umbrella fandoms this year because, although I have previously received excellent vids for Jumanji (1995), I have always longed for a vid that thematically ties together the entire Jumanji Cinematic Universe! It's about the existential horror of being trapped in your own fears for [mumblety] years, and the weird sensation of ending up back in the past after having lived your own future, and the intergenerational connections, and moving past the failures of friendship back into their strengths again! It is also however about zany hijinks and body-swapping nonsense and if this is what speaks to you about this canon, I would never wish to keep you from it.
전지적 독자 시점 - 싱숑 | Omniscient Reader - Sing-Shong
I do not actually expect anyone to pick this up on a whim for Festivids season given that it's five million years long ... nonetheless, for the sake of completionism, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint is an extremely long finished webnovel/ongoing webtoon about a guy who finds himself experiencing the events of his favorite post-apocalyptic novel and simultaneously has the chance to live out all his Thoughts, Plans and Dreams for how he'd Solve the Story while at the same time constantly confronting questions about fictionality and reality, the fourth wall, and the impossibility of interpersonal communication! This is an intensely meta canon that's fully engaged with its own fictional nature and I would love any kind of vid that plays around with that and with the central reader/character/writer trio of Kim Dokja/Yoo Joonghyuk/Han Sooyoung, but I also love all the other characters -- Yoo Sangah, Jung Heewon, and Lee Jihye are all personal favorites, and I would love vids centered around any of them!
살아남은로맨스 | Surviving Romance (Webcomic)
This webcomic on the other hand is a breezy 58 chapters! No problems! It is ALSO a metafictional story about someone entering a fictional universe and fighting an apocalypse with the power of friendship and learning to recognize fictional characters as individuals .... anyway, in addition to all the ways the storyline is kryptonite, the visuals of the webcomic are amazing and I really love the individualization of each girl and the way they come into focus one by one, so I nominated it specifically because I could see something very cool happening with that in a vid, but honestly I'm a little obsessed with this webcomic and whatever you might choose to do with it would delight me.
