It honestly felt to me very in conversation with a lot of cult classic Horror About Pastoral Landscapes And/Or Gender (Midsommar, Jennifer's Body, The Wicker Man) but I have not. seen any of these movies. so I am going entirely off Tumblr gifsets and Wikipedia summaries .... we do indeed need a scholar to weigh in!
