Admittedly this is my interpretation of Becca's description, but originally I thought they took regular trains and added AI, and Becca clarified that (a) they 3D print the trains the same way they 3D print humans and moose, (b) the train body ... comes with ... a smaller non-train body?, so they're kind of creating humans (or whatever species idk) who also have a train body they're stuck with and feel sensation through? Which to me is a very Snowpiercer solution to a problem (how to have a train directed intelligently) solved at least 58,000 years before the book is set. (Also something I'm not over.)
I'm not planning to read the book, but if I did it would be to find out if it works to interpret the whole train thing as being about putting pressure on the train conductors' union.
