cupenny, who has been demanding that I read my way through the Fullmental Alchemist manga on onemanga.com. Sorry, Star, even with the internet at my fingertips I am only through Volume 6!
Chapter 13: Steel Body
- I wish Hawkeye would make it onto the important characters intro page! She is totally important enough.
- I still think Al's angst over possibly being an artificially created soul is kind of silly! I mean, I want to hug him a lot, still. But it's silly.
- I really wonder if people knew Ross was a girl at this point! Her first name hasn't been given yet and she has a short haircut and not that much that's visibly feminine about her - in the anime the voice gave her away, but I wonder if it was supposed to be a fakeout
- aw, Barry misses #48!
- interesting parallel positioning of Mad Bomber Kimbly (he still hasn't come into play as of where the anime is at currently, I don't think, so I have no idea why he is imoprtant) and Ed being sulky in bed
- Ross and Brosh are ADORABLE. I loved them in the show and I love them here also. <3 (And I love that it's totally Ross that smacks Ed. Like, they clearly CONFERRED about it, and were like "Ross, you get to do the actual smacking of Ed, because you are MORE HARDCORE.") Also, Ross definitely looks feminine in this sequence, so maybe my earlier guess about a reader fakeout was wrong.
- oh wait, Brosh hit Al. Still, not as hardcore (even though he is harder) because Al has no military status! ROSS WINS AGAIN.
Chapter 14: The Feeling of an Only Child
- Hughes remains adorable. "MY LOVE CAN'T BE STOPPED BY THE LIKES OF A PAY CUT!" <33333
- you know, it strikes me that Winry must have to get, uh, pretty close to Ed in order to fix his leg . . .
- HUGHES MAKES EVERYONE CRY, HE'S LIKE A MONSTER. Hughes is totally the Mal of FMA.
- awww, Winry fixes Elicia's mouse! That is adorable. Also: series officially passes the Bechdel test for the first time here, I think!
- perhaps it is shallow to be thinking how much I like Winry's boots during Al's breakdown
Chapter 15: Steel Heart
- see, I wish we got to see Winry being upset on her own behalf here, as well as on Ed's. Al thinks she's been lying to him for years! That has to SERIOUSLY HURT.
- ED'S ART SKILLS *dies*
- Ross not wanting to get involved anymore is pretty serious foreshadowing, considering
- Fuhrer President King Czar Dictator Bradley has WAY TOO MANY TITLES. Or is one of them his other name? In my head, he was christened with the name King Bradley.
- heh. "There was a storm" = pun on Fuhrer?
- awww, I forgot this was coming up so soon. :( Lt. Colonel Hughes, I WILL MISS YOU.
Chapter 16: Separate Ways
- Al being totally ready to get a girlfriend while Ed is still all "EW GIRL COOTIES" will never not make me laugh. I kind of hope he gets to have some kind of totally angsty "BUT I'M TRAPPED IN THIS METAL BODY" romance before the end of the series!
- I love the perspective she uses in that panel of them carrying the coffin - man. That is an effective transition.
- the military dress uniforms are SO MUCH SANER than their everyday outfits. For dudes. Hawkeye's uniform skirt: not as practical.
- "Will you follow me?" "You're asking me that now?" <3333 HAWKEYE.
- knowing the backstory, I'm not surprised Scar's worried about losing his right arm! EASY COME, EASY GO.
- hahaha Hawkeye's naming sense is just like Alanna's! She would totally name a kitten Faithful. And a sword Lightning.

- hahahaha Ed and Al talking about the weather in the background while the girls talk about IMPORTANT THINGS. >:D
- "Fitting the Carl Cannon is a man's idea of being romantic"? I'm . . . guessing this is poor translation here and we're not meant to take this as Tommy/Bunny OTP? @_@ AT LEAST I HOPE SO.
- I do like that they take into account practical considerations of MIRACLE PROSTHESES, to a certain extent. Weight! Balance! Breakdowns!
- Also, when doing magical construction work.
- Overall, this is a great arc for Winry

- Man, Ed and Winry's babies are going to be SO INSANELY BLONDE.
- However, Ed, when you tell Winry to go back home to Granny I want to smack you. Also, Winry, wanting to help the Elrics is great! I approve! BUT you can also have life goals for yourself! It's okay!
- PINACO IS A SMOKIN' HOT BADASS. THIS WE KNOW.
- okay, now here she is DEFINITELY going for the fakeout with Mr. Curtis and Izumi
Chapter 20: Titleless: Electric Boogaloo!
- IZUMI <33333333333333333333333333
- Izumi/Mr. Curtis remains ADORABLE. AND HILARIOUS.
- hahahaha Izumi thinks Hohenheim is hot
- Izumi's expression of "AWKWARD" while Edward rages about his father is kind of priceless
- and everyone is like "thanks for bringing up birth and babies, guys. SUPER HELPFUL. Really."
- Of course Ed's magic horsie statue has teeth and a horn. No one should ever let Ed design My Little Ponies.

- It is not actually all that hard to tell a suit of armor is hollow if you hit it.
Chapter 21: Flashback time!
- for some reason what gets me most about the funeral scene is Pinako's formal black suit and pearls. :(
- I AGREE WITH YOU ED, CHEESE IS THE GREATEST
- FMA world has movies?
- "JUST A PASSING HOUSEWIFE" from the anime is a better line than that translation here, I think. Nonetheless: that will never not be awesome.
- DISCIPLES. Hahahaha Izumi is Jesus.
- "Be . . . cause we want to make life better for people . . ." Super convincing, guys.

Chapter 22: The Masked Man
- well, this is new!
- Curtises! Casually flinging knives at each other! <3 While Izumi reminisces about her month in the pole fighting bears! I would totally watch The Curtis Show.
- sad bunny rabbit. :(
- I guess it makes them slightly more competent, if they are successfully catching food somewhat before it gets snatched out of their hands . . .
- so . . . masked man is totally Mr. Curtis or something, yes?
- Izumi looks good all in black! (I have my priorities straight.)
- ha! I guess it was not that hard to call. But I am glad that in this version Izumi took precautions to make sure they did not die.
Chapter 23: Knock On Heaven's Gate
- Ed and Al's traumatized faces are hilarious
- oh hey, Ed and Al have other childhood friends! Makes sense.
- of course the ill-advised attempt is framed by ominous black crows
- so what DID Izumi hear about what happened to Ed and Al and why they didn't get back to Dublith? Inquiring minds want to know!
- the truth shall make ye fret, Ed
- . . . oh, Ed. Don't offer up your heart in bargains like that. It never goes well. Just ask Howl! Or Mytho!
Chapter 24: Full Metal Alchemist
- Ed lying about his age? Kind of hilarious! Mostly because of Mustang's bitchface, and how he is like "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS HAWKEYE," which clearly translates to "Hawkeye heeeeeeeelp." AND THEN SHE CRACKS UP AT HIM. I LOVE HAWKEYE.
- tiny wheelchair Ed :(
- And of course Pinako Rockbell had to do the dirty work of actually dealing with the mom-zombie. (Mombie?)
- On a shallow note, Hawkeye's short hair is cute!
- and she's all *inspects nails* "Killed people? Yup. Dozens." <3333
- Why is Hawkeye in the military? To stop Mustang getting his fool self killed, that's why!
- okay, question: why doesn't anyone ever try to get Al to sell his soul to the military?

- I think Izumi's internal-organ loss is the ONLY TIME IN THE SERIES that the author has the chance to amputate a character's arm and decides not to! Uh, not that chronic internal organ loss is not also very serious.
