Man, guys, we rewatched the end of Capital Scandal last night, and as some of you will understand, it became NECESSARY for me to post a costume poll today so that I could remember back to the wacky comedy times and STOP CRYING IN MY HEART.

. . . so, uh, anyway! Last week the ladies finally broke Se Gi's streak, with Young Ran's adorable suit taking the lead after a neck-and-neck competition:



And this week, it's all ladies, all the time! The gentlemen of the show were definitely not bringing their A game to this episode, but who needs suits when you have Cha Song Joo?



1.

First up, something I never thought we would see: a hairstyle that looks vaguely ridiculous even on Cha Song Joo.



I love the dress! And the belt! But . . . I'm not so sure about the cap of ironed-down hair surrounded by fluff (and, from her expression, neither is Na Yeo Kyeung.) Your minds may vary, though!

Much better is the sparkly cloche cap being sported by Woo Wan's mom. All the little beads! This is kind of embarrassing to say, but I am becoming increasingly aware that I just want to dress like Woo Wan's mom all the time. (Except when she's stolen Sachiko's hats.)

If the competition is going to come down to sparkly hats, though, Cha Song Joo is like BRING IT. I'm not sure exactly what that is on her head - a giant metal flower? A sequined butterfly? - but either way it looks infinitely more dignified on her than it ever would on anyone else.

However, we have a surprise contender . . . Na Yeo Kyeung, in her first and only fancy outfit of the series!



It's a bit hard to get good images of this dress because they do a lot of slow pans up, intercut with the stunned reactions of the rest of the cast:



And it's not a dress I would wear, but Na Yeo Kyeung looks pretty gorgeous in it, even if the high heels do give her some difficulty.



I almost want to vote this as my favorite just because Na Yeo Kyeung so rarely gets a chance to play. (And because Cha Song Joo took her shopping FOR THE REVOLUTION. Best girl-bonding moment ever!)

But then Cha Song Joo pulls out all the stops AGAIN with a Marilyn Monroe impersonation that is all the more impressive given that the show is set twenty years before The Seven-Year Itch was released.



How does she do it?? Does Cha Song Joo secretly possess the possess the power of TIME TRAVEL?



Cha Song Joo is like, dude, I don't even know the extent of my fashion-related superpowers. Just roll with it.

I love Na Yeo Kyeung's dress! It's adorable! And, as with Cha Song Joo's previous dresses, I want to steal it. Also the Marilyn dress looks pretty awesome on CSJ. But yeah, Na Yeo Kyeung's dress takes it for me.

It is a super cute dress! I don't tend to like that style for myself (and also that kind of fabric wrinkles like crazy), but how good she looks in it almost makes me reconsider.

Confession time: I actually dislike about half of the Capital Scandal outfits, including a lot of Cha Song Joo's. >.> I'M SORRY. THIS ERA OF WOMEN'S COSTUME MOSTLY DOESN'T DO IT FOR ME.

But I mention this because I actually like nearly all the dresses in this episode's poll! The only exception is that black dress; what is with that unflattering drapey stuff? I have no soul, and I am not a fan; it makes her look like she has horrible posture and no shoulder muscles, and neither is true. All the others are nice, though!

Hahaha, well, a lot of the outfits are things that I would never wear, but I think look amazing on other people! The black one I think is really interestingly designed, and I think Cha Song Joo would pull it off if it wasn't for the hair, but I would never wear it myself in a million years.

(Also, for the record, many of Cha Song Joo's outfits are . . . not actually 30's fashion. In fact I suspect many of them are just costume designers going CRAZY WITH JOY over getting to dress up Han Go Eun in a million different outfits every episode. *laughing*)

(Wellllllll yes this is also true. *giggling* Even I know this! But all the same, it's the wrong kind of architectural and the wrong kind of drapey for my taste, a lot of the time.

However, I do FULLY SYMPATHIZE with the costumer's glee at getting to deck an actress out in seventy zillion costumes they can handwavily pretend might possibly be AU 30s outfits in AU 30s Korea.)

(Aside from the adorable suits, the Marilyn Monroe dress probably comes closest to being something I would really wear myself. So gauzy and pleated and gorgeous! Except I look terrible in white.

. . . well, that and the red dress from last week, which I still love.

And not just any actress! Han Go Eun, who could make a potato sack look glamorous. If a costumer has always wanted to make a dress out of a potato sack, this is their chance.)

(The bodice of that blue dress looks pretty! I can't see how the rest of it looks, though. I wasn't all that big on the red dress, though. Not awful, and I do love red, but it didn't grab me; I rarely like the one-shouldered look, and I kept getting distracted by my intense dislike of the arm-bracelet and that random back-drapery. *sheepish*

But yes, the white pleated Marilyn thing is a whole lot closer than most to something I'd actually wear! And I would TOTALLY wear Na Yeu Keong's green thing if the skirt were longer...)

(Ha - the draping stuff on the bodices of the blue dress and the green dress are exactly the kind of thing I don't tend to like at all, for myself. *amused* I actually like cool back-drapery with a simpler front. But I also think that kind of shiny satin is the fabric of the devil for wearing; I'd much rather have something gauzier and less prone to wrinkles.)

I would be more okay with it if it was just curly, but I do not understand the flat portions glued down on top of her head. It really does make the whole thing look like it's trying to escape!

LOL, I actually know someone whose hair does that naturally, so I am not terribly disturbed by the flat bits -- it's the wild riot of artificial and highly defined curls that terrifies me!

What's amazing to me, too, is the fact that there can't be more than an hour or so of story-time between the scene with the curls and the Marilyn Monroe scene. How fast can she redo her hair? Again: the only answer is magic.
