Today Mir and I watched the premier of Jekyll on the BBC, and I gotta say: playing with the history of the Jekyll-and-Hyde story and its evolution over the years in a meta fashion earns points. Having the actress who played Jane from Coupling star earns a few more points, because, hee.

But having the Mysterious Private Investigators turn out to be a kickass lesbian couple? Earns a WIN.

Jekyll = so. cool. Seriously, it just gets more and more mindblowingly awesome as it goes along. But basically James Nesbitt and Gina Bellman could have just been sitting in a room talking about scones and I would have watched it anyway. Hurrah British telly.

I watched the finale last night. No spoiling for you, but the whole series is fantastic. James Nesbitt is a really impressive actor.

The PIs, happily, continue to kick ass throughout.

OH! And the "American" villain is played by the actor who plays the Marquis de Carrabas in Neverwhere.

Yay! I really enjoyed the first episode - it has enough offbeat wit to add to the SRS MURDER BSNS that I like, and I will definitely be watching the rest.

. . . I would actually also have watched that. *admits* And not only because I love scones. Although I do.

The PIs are my absolute favorite so far - I was so worried that they were going to kill one of them off in the first episode, which would have just sucked.

(And they've thrown in nods to all the previous J&Hs! And the previous J&Hs are so ridiculous that it just makes it better.)

Huh.

I watched the first 6 or so, then realised it was so mindblowingly bad not even the cool dialogue and snappy lesbians could make me sit through another episode.

I fear this is going to be another Robin Hood: Prince of Chavs. Americans snap it up and we Brits go "why BBC, whhhhy?!"

And I don't understand the difference.

I've been watching it On Demand here (am up to episode 4) and really rather love it. I mean, if an American station had tried to pass off some of those effects and stuff, I'd have mocked it mercilessly. However, BBC tends to get a pass on that stuff.

Michelle Ryan being hot like fire doesn't hurt, either.

Though this is somewhat different in that I loved Robin Hood for being fantastically cheesy. This I think might actually be good! But admittedly I have only seen the first episode.

BBC totally gets the Special Effects Pass. I mean . . . Doctor Who. *just pats it fondly* The cheesiness adds to the fun!
