I can vouch for the fact that Barbara Michaels is a good post-Orwell palate cleanser! There are definitely plenty of significantly better Michaelses for you to make your way through first, though; this one has its charms but is honestly pretty incoherent. And Vanish with the Rose has so much more actual landscape gardening!
