Yeah, this is 1950 - over a decade before! I'd love to read the version of this book that Dana Lyon wrote after reading The Feminine Mystique actually as I feel like it would be quite different ... but interestingly now I'm looking at dates the sequel where it turns out the husband is irredeemably Evil and she hooks up with the Beatnik reporter cousin instead is 1963, so perhaps that reflects cultural developments!
