Two Important Things that happened this weekend! (Both, actually, courtesy of the kind aid of rushin_doll)

1. For the first time in 2+ years, I have a REAL WORKING LAPTOP KEYBOARD. That is not made of rubber and does not have to be carted around with me and does not require the strength of ten to use! Perhaps now I will actually be able to output words again!

2. I have fallen into deep and distressing love with the anime Princess Tutu - the kind of obsessive fannish falling-in-love where once it is over you fall into despair and spend days convinced that you will NEVER FIND ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL THAT WAY AGAIN, WHAT IS THE POINT OF DOING ANYTHING EXCEPT GOING BACK AND REREADING/REWATCHING AD INFINITUM. Which is a feeling I have occasionally experienced before, but not usually this badly! Anyways. Princess Tutu, amazing, gorgeous, starts out as an apparently fairly standard if unusually odd shoujo anime about a magical princess ballet duck and then doubles back on itself and brings the meta and the emotional heartwrenchingness to the infinite power; has that Ouranish quality of holding a mirror up to fandom and your investment in it, except instead of fandom it's fiction itself, so you think you should be detached and analyzing your own reactions but instead you just get more invested. Or I do. So. I will stop babbling now or else I will never stop, but please feel free to share your own experiences of the dangers of falling in deep true love with a work of fiction.

Okay, so I am presently taking a dissertation break, and during this break I went back to see if there were any of Becca's Princess Tutu posts that I missed because I had not yet fallen in deep fannish love with Princess Tutu yet. And in fact, there were such posts, including this one.

And I have been assembling a Princess Tutu Ballet Music playlist for work, because there is nothing better for dissertation mornings than the Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin, which is the music to which Sparklemotion Fakir smites ravens! But while I found the music listing for the first half of the series, I could not find the music for the second half of Princess Tutu anywhere. You have saved me, Gramarye!

That said, Babelfish gave me a set of truly classic translations for that page. I cannot fully express my love for the following description:

Oh god, I have such terrible, terrible relationships with fiction. Right now, I feel all heart-clenchy and glowy whenever I even think of the Aubreyad (predictable, what?), but at the same time, the idea of re-reading fills me with a bizarre terror. I JUST DON'T KNOW IF I'M READY FOR THAT KIND OF EMOTIONAL COMMITMENT AGAIN. ;_;

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL. Heart-clenchy and glowy is an excellent term for it, too!

I have had to stop myself from even watching the amazing Tutu-in-three-minutes AMV (over and over and over, as I was duing earlier this weekend) because every time I do I am plunged back into the depths of emotional attachment and at this rate I will NEVER MOVE ON. I don't want to get over you, Tutu!

OK, so after you have been plunged into the depths of emotional attachment like this, do you find yourself trying to fit every piece of music you hear into the storyline, or is that just me and my weirdness?

(Although I know that when I am psyched about an RP plot or something, I do tend to be like HEY THAT SONG IS TOTALLY ABOUT _____.)

i saw a dress in a shop window this morning that reminded me of princess tutu and started quietly constructing an imaginary story around it

And yes exactly! My default mode would be to immediately run out and make parodies and offer for Yuletide but I am afraid to put my grubby fingers near it!

(So instead I content myself with imagining all the icons that I would make/take if I had infinite space/skills, and yet may attempt if I end up with some free time at work today. Because that is at least one way to express my love without poking at the perfection that is the shape of the story as is.)

Everything about Tutu is wonderful except that Drosselmeier makes me go into a homicidal rage when he is on screen. :D

That is fair though, he is sort of a terrible person! Also, terrifying.

(I do not know if you know the musical Into the Woods, but there is a part 3/4 of the way through when the Drosselmeyerian narrator gets fed to a giant by the pissed-off characters. I was entertaining myself the other day imagining that happening in the middle of Tutu.)

I am scary like woah when I decide to blitzkrieg a show? AKA It is far better to have ballet dancing duck and pretty confused boys than worrying about my oral examination tomorrow! It is rather adorable all the ways around.
