Brief update: got to Chicago safely; got back safely; had amazing time; did not want to leeeeeeave!; am currently ensconced chez chaos_pockets; am having feet pounced by kitten of chaos_pockets, who = CUTEST THING EVER; read That Book, will relate opinions in comments if anyone desperately cares.

Also, I now have sparkly toes and fingers.

I cannot express how glad I am that Dumbledore got complicated backstory, no matter how late in the game it seems to throw it in, because Saintly Dumbledore has always made me want to kick him

Exactly! It was always my opinion that he was fucked in the head, so it is pleasing to me that it is justified. :D
