Dec. 4th, 2007 12:47 pmOkay, so, Heroes.
Everyone has already talked about the things I didn't like - of which there were several;
shati sometimes I wish you were not always right about this kind of thing - so I'm going to try to keep this to things I did like, and things I am hoping to see.
1. Hilarious, hilarious nemeses reunions! I am talking about both Mohinder and Sylar, and Hiro and Adam. Mohinder and Sylar obviously wins for hilarity - breakfast! trust issues! - and also for outcome; Elle saving the day was awesome. But Adam babbling about how Hiro was so much more than his friend also made me laugh a lot.
1.5. Also, despite the show's issues, one thing I definitely want to give them kudos for right here: those were the climactic facing-down-the-villain scenes of the season, and in neither of them do you have a white guy saving the day. Peter may grab the vial (after being led around by the nose for several episodes), but it's Hiro and Mohinder who are the good guys set up in parallel to the villainous characters, and it's Hiro and Elle who take those villainous characters down. So thank you, show, for that.
(1.75: You know what would have been better? If Niki had SURVIVED her own heroicness, kthx. I know I was going to keep this to things I liked, but I HAD TO SAY.)
2. Fun as Nathan and his beard and his snark were, and fond as I am of Adrian Pasdar, I will be seriously annoyed if they bring him back, just because . . . they teased his death last season and then brought him back. Seriously, once is enough for any given character. This is not the time to take X-Men as your guide.
3. So . . . I don't know about y'all, but I read the West-Claire scene as West basically admitting that he just likes the power rush from SEKRIT SUPERPOWERS, and Claire realizing that and realizing he was a douche. And, you know, maybe that wasn't the point they were going for, but if not I don't care, because that's how I'm going to continue to take it. And as I seriously doubt that West will be coming back, no one can prove me wrong!
4. It was totally Bennet who shot Nathan, right? I mean, that's not even in question. Which may set up interesting fallout for next season, but what I really want to talk about: Oh, HRG, you watched The Great Escape, didn't you. And secretly wanted to be Steve McQueen. And were hoping the whole time someone would call you on your reference and nobody did so you just kept on doing it. I'm sorry, guys, I love Bennet.
5. But I also facepalm about how Lyle doesn't even get to say anything when his father announces he's leaving to work for an evil corporation forever. Perhaps Lyle became mute sometime between 2x08 and 2x10 and the show just forgot to mention it?
6. This is not really a plot thing. It's a Kristen Bell thing. Did anyone besides me think she was deliberately channeling Hayden Panettiere during the scenes with Bob and HRG? I mean, it makes sense that she would be just in terms of Setting Up Parallels, Hey Look There They Are, You Noticed Them, Right? Just, acting-wise, I think it's cool, if I'm not making it up.
7. Show, thank you for not killing Maya. Useless as she was this episode . . . call me a dumb optimist, but I STILL HAVE HOPE.
I think that's it.

Date: 2007-12-04 09:54 pm (UTC)3. I'll just... let you have that interpretation. (Even if I wasn't really agreeing with Claire.)
5. Lyle's pretending to be the Haitian, actually.
(OMG - they're the same person!)
6. I didn't really notice it, though she was certainly being "weepy." Though during the Bob scene I was kind of distracted by wanting to punch Bob lots, and the HRG one... I guess thinking back on it, yeah, a little. And she was sort of like Claire when she tried to sneak onto her Dad's computer to find information about herself (though her talking to herself while she sleuthed was pure Veronica Mars), but apparently Bob sucks at security more than HRG. ... maybe.

Date: 2007-12-04 11:25 pm (UTC). . . mostly I just want to know how Hiro managed to get Adam in there.
3. My rose-colored glasses! Let me show you them! *clings to*
5. He is. I forget who I was talking to when we decided that the Haitian has been secretly training Lyle and he will show up in four seasons stalking silently around and calling himself 'The Odessan', but it's so going to happen.
6. I think I noticed it most when she was talking to HRG, and she says something along the lines of 'tell me what my dad did to me' - the phrasing and the intonation both were very S1 Claire.

Date: 2007-12-05 04:36 pm (UTC)I was trying to figure out who it was that shot Nathan, but now that you've said it, it makes sense. I mean, they're both in Texas at the time.
